Paints We Stand By

Not all paints are created equal - and after years on the job, we've learned exactly which products hold up and which ones don't.

Every paint and stain we use at JBG Painting has been tested in the real world: on cabinets, trim, siding, decks, and living room walls across Eastern North Carolina. We don’t pick products based on price or availability. We pick them because they perform, they last, and we’d use them in our own homes.

This is our curated lineup – and the honest reason we reach for each one.

Our Products

BENJAMIN MOORE ADVANCE

Waterborne Alkyd Enamel | Interior | Cabinets & Trim

The cabinet painter’s gold standard.

Advance bridges the gap between the smooth, hard finish of a traditional oil-based paint and the easy cleanup of a modern waterborne formula. As it dries, it self-levels – meaning brush marks disappear and the surface cures to a finish that looks and feels like it came out of a factory, not a paint can.

If you’ve ever run your hand across a perfectly painted cabinet door and wondered how it got that smooth, the answer is usually Advance.

Best for:

  • Kitchen and bathroom cabinets
  • Interior doors
  • Trim and millwork
  • Built-ins and furniture pieces

Why we use it:
Most paints stay slightly flexible after drying. On cabinets that open and close dozens of times a day, that flexibility means surfaces that dent, scratch, and wear down quickly. Advance cures to a hard enamel that handles daily contact without showing it.

BENJAMIN MOORE REGAL SELECT

Premium Interior Paint | Interior | Living Spaces

Premium coverage with everyday resilience.

Regal Select is our go-to for living spaces that need to look great and last. It covers beautifully – even dramatic color changes often require fewer coats than you’d expect – and its low VOC formula makes it safe for homes with children and pets. The finish is rich, the color stays true, and it stands up to regular cleaning without dulling or wearing thin.

Best for:
  • Living rooms and dining rooms
  • Bedrooms
  • Hallways and entryways
  • Spaces where low odor and low VOC matter

Why we use it:
A lot of interior paints look great on day one and start showing wear within a year. Regal Select holds its color and finish over time, resists common household stains, and keeps its look through regular cleaning. For the rooms your family lives in most, that longevity matters.

READY SEAL WOOD STAIN & SEALER

Oil-Based Stain & Sealer | Exterior | Wood Surfaces

One coat. No primer. No stress.

Ready Seal is the rare product that actually lives up to its goof-proof promise. Its oil-based formula penetrates deep into the wood grain rather than sitting on top of it – which means it protects from the inside out against moisture, UV damage, and mold. No back-brushing, no primer, no temperature restrictions. Just a clean, streak-free finish that enhances the natural character of the wood.

Best for:
  • Decks and dock surfaces
  • Wood fences
  • Exterior wood siding
  • Pergolas, gazebos, and outdoor structures

Why we use it:
Film-forming stains sit on top of wood and eventually peel as the wood expands and contracts through seasons. Ready Seal penetrates the wood itself, so there’s no film to crack or peel. It weathers gracefully and is easy to reapply when the time comes – without stripping or heavy prep.

SPECTRUM RHINO-CRYL SPREME

Exterior Acrylic Paint | Exterior | Siding, Trim & Doors

Built for whatever the weather brings.

Exterior paint has one job: protect your home from the outside world. Rhino-Cryl Supreme takes that job seriously. Its acrylic formula bonds tightly to siding, trim, and doors – resisting dirt pickup, mildew growth, and the kind of slow, creeping damage that coastal and humid climates accelerate. It can be applied in cooler temperatures than most exterior paints, which extends our working season and means your home gets protected when it needs it most.

Best for:
  • Exterior siding – wood, fiber cement, and previously painted surfaces
  • Exterior trim and fascia
  • Doors and window frames
  • Year-round projects in variable weather

Why we use it:
In Eastern North Carolina, humidity and heat put exterior coatings through serious stress. Rhino-Cryl consistently holds up where lesser paints chalk, fade, or allow mildew to creep in. It’s a product we trust to protect the investment our clients have made in their homes.

SHERWIN-WILLIAMS DURATION HOME

Interior Acrylic Latex | Interior | High-Traffic Spaces

High-traffic rooms, meet your match.

Duration Home is the paint we reach for in the rooms that take the most abuse. Its built-in stain blocker hides old marks and prevents new ones from soaking in – meaning most spills wipe clean with a damp cloth before they ever become a stain. Anti-microbial agents built into the formula prevent mold and mildew from growing on the paint surface, which matters especially in kitchens and bathrooms.

Best for:
  • Kitchens and breakfast areas
  • Playrooms and kids’ bedrooms
  • Mudrooms and laundry rooms
  • Any room where walls take a daily beating

Why we use it:
Standard paints in high-traffic areas start showing wear within a year – scuffs that won’t wash off, areas where the paint has thinned, spots that look dull compared to the rest of the wall. Duration Home is formulated specifically to resist that kind of wear, and it shows in how the finish holds up over time.

SHERWIN-WILLIAMS EMERALD INTERIOR

Interior Acrylic Latex | Interior | Premium Spaces

The finish that speaks for itself.

When the result needs to be genuinely impressive, we use Emerald. Its advanced formula delivers deep, even coverage over the most challenging existing colors – dark walls, stained surfaces, dramatic color changes – without the uneven undertones that lesser paints leave behind. It resists water streaking, repels stains at the surface level, and produces a finish that holds up to washing without dulling or wearing thin.

The combination of primer and paint in a single product saves time without cutting corners. The finished wall simply looks better than what most paints can achieve.

Best for:
  • Accent walls and statement colors
  • Dramatic color changes
  • Master bedrooms and primary living spaces
  • Anywhere the finish needs to be exceptional

Why we use it:
There’s a visible difference between a wall painted with Emerald and one painted with a mid-grade product, and most homeowners see it immediately. The depth of color, the consistency of the finish, the way it holds up over time. For clients who want their space to feel truly elevated, this is the product that delivers.

Most homeowners don't know there's a difference - until they see one.

Walk into any big box store and you’ll find dozens of paint options at a range of price points. They all look similar on the label. They all promise great coverage and long-lasting color. But put two of them on the same wall and check back in two years, and the difference becomes very clear.

Cheap paint fades faster, scrubs off sooner, and often requires more coats to achieve the same coverage – which means the “savings” disappear quickly. The wrong product on cabinets can peel within months. The wrong exterior coating can chalk, crack, and trap moisture behind your siding.

We’ve seen it all. That’s why we’re selective about what goes on your home.

JBG Painting finished deck with rich wood stain highlighting the railing and platform.

Our product lineup didn’t come from a catalog. It came from years of real-world experience – seeing what holds up on coastal homes through heat and humidity, what survives in kitchens through daily use, and what actually looks as good five years later as it did on day one.

Every product on this page had to earn its place. We look for:

If a product doesn’t meet our standards on every point, it doesn’t make the list. Simple as that.

FAQs

That’s exactly what our consultation is for. We assess your surface, your environment, and your goals, and we recommend the right product
for the job. You don’t need to figure this out on your own.

Yes. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams both offer thousands of colors across their product lines. Ready Seal comes in a curated range of wood tones. Rhino-Cryl is available in a full color palette. We can match virtually any color you have in mind.

Yes, though we typically source materials directly to make sure we’re working with fresh product at the correct sheen and formulation for your specific surface. If you have a product preference, let us know during your quote and we’ll work with you.

Interior paint in normal conditions typically lasts 5-10 years depending on the room and finish. Exterior paint 5-7 years. Cabinets painted with the right product and proper prep can last 8-15 years. These timelines assume quality products and correct application, which is exactly what we provide.

We’ve tested them. They don’t perform at the same level; in coverage, durability, or consistency. Our clients are trusting us with their homes. Using products we can’t fully stand behind isn’t something we’re willing to do.

Let’s make your home feel finished again.
